The Sunday After Yet Another Massacre

I went looking for peace for a heavy heart
images of slain children scattered through my mind
sky blown blue golden summer sun
as I walked to church

beauty of nature in the soft quiet morning
could not my heart enlighten
the birds not sing over the gunshots
no answers for why anywhere to be found

I went looking for peace for a heavy heart
sat there in church
the man crucified before my eyes
holding me in
folding me out

so I swallowed him into me,
and the wine so sweet
love shot the heavy cold touch
with a gun made of bread.
