The Meaning of Friendship

The first time I saw my two new friends, they were kinda awkward and shy

sitting high

above a magnificent view

I was struck by their colours

Mischieva told me they were new here, like me,

hadn't been seen here in 40 something years

but now

at this particular point in time

here they were

like me

but I won't pretend, because of me

though I'd like to

I knew they were rare straight away

at least in my eyes

so I rushed to get my camera

rushing never makes trusty friends..

they flew away

Over several days I made the same mistake

call me slow

but there came the day I was sitting there with camera close at hand

and ever so slowly I picked it up and aimed

hoping they wouldn't mistake it for a gun

one was ruffled, one was sleek

both fixed their bright eyes on me

and I beady-eyed them back

and so began our friendship

one day Mischieva and I were eating carrot cake

when they came by

they weren't being impolite

but I could tell they were eyeing off the cake

so

ever so slowly

I crumbled some up

and extended the true hand of friendship

one looked away

one flew off

I smiled a parrot smile

and it worked its charm 

:)

they both loved carrot cake!

friendship firmly established

I felt bad for maybe making them fat

so next breakfast visit, I offered them some toast

they were not impressed!

so...

I bought some Dutch breakfast cake

and they brought their friends

:)
